The Ultra Pure Advantages

  • ClO2 is more chemically selective than bleaches, ozone, or peroxides. This means that it destroys unwanted microbes without burning or corroding surfaces.
  • ClO2 is a neutral molecule. This allows it to seamlessly infiltrate growths (such as biofilm) and destroy the inner-lying molds and spores
  • ClO2 disinfects via molecule. The chlorine dioxide molecule has an oxidation number 2.5 times higher than bleach, ozone, and peroxide, which means that lower levels of ClO2 can accomplish the same disinfection as high levels of conventional chemicals.
  • Due to chlorine dioxide’s unique method of pathogen inactivation, viruses, bacteria, molds, and spores are unable to build up a tolerance to the ClO2.
  • Selective MicroⓇ ultra-pure chlorine dioxide at the point of use offers a very user-friendly (just add water), highly compatible, and environmentally-aware method to harness the decontamination power of the ClOâ‚‚ molecule. This is accomplished through its patented membrane technology, which permits a true gas exchange, and delivers >99% pure chlorine dioxide in solution.
  • Unlike chlorine bleach and bromide cleaning agents, chlorine dioxide breaks down into water, oxygen, and common table salt. This makes it a superb environmental choice while limiting its corrosive effects on equipment. ClOâ‚‚ also breaks down quickly, which means it won’t harm the soil or add toxic deposits to the ground.
  • ClO2 has high material compatibility and leaves no residue on hard, non-porous surfaces.
  • ClO2 is a highly versatile and highly compatible gas molecule that retains its chemical characteristics in both air and water.
  • ClO2 does not form harmful byproducts, like chlorine bleach. Nor does it hydrolyze in water to form ionic impurities.
  • Ultra-pure chlorine dioxide solutions rinse away completely from lines, tanks, and distribution systems in only one flush.
  • Chlorine dioxide is registered with the EPA (Registration No. 74986-1) and is considered an excellent bactericide, fungicide, and antimicrobial agent. It has also passed the EPA’s DIS/TISS guidelines for use as a disinfectant and food-contact surface sanitizer.
  • Chlorine dioxide has been proven effective on food-contact surfaces at diluted concentrations as low as 5 parts per million (ppm). Because it is so powerful in such small amounts, it is also extremely economical.
  • The FDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have approved chlorine dioxide in food processing plants for sanitizing and controlling bacteria and mold.

How It Works

Ultra Pure Microreactor Technology

The original or “stabilized” version of chlorine dioxide is made from precursor chemicals mixed together, creating low concentrations of ClO2, but also many harmful chlorinated by-products including toxic and corrosive chlorates. Then, chlorine dioxide generators were utilized to create a better concentration of ClO2. However, these generators are extraordinarily expensive, not mobile, and require trained personnel to operate. Corrosive chlorinated by-products also remained a concern.

Ultra Pure Microreactor Technology

  • Because only a controlled amount of water vapor crosses the membrane, The reactants remain concentrated driving the reaction to completion.
  • The microreactor seperates the solid reactants from the water using a reaction controlling membrane.
  • Spent reactants are retained in the microreactor; greater than 99% pure chlorine dioxide exists in working aqueous solution.

What are “quats” and why should you be concerned?

Ammonium quaternary compounds (“quats” or “QACs”) are active ingredients found in antibacterial household and industrial cleaning products.

Product labels on ammonium quaternary cleaning products often advise users to wash their hands after use, keep out of reach of children, and in some cases, rinse down the affected areas with water after use. Why?

  • Quats are officially registered as pesticides with the EPA.
  • Quats are potent skin irritants and can cause rashes and dermatitis.
  • Quats can cause respiratory irritation leading to breathing problems.
  • Cleaning workers exposed regularly to quats have developed occupational asthma.
  • Quats are linked to reproductive harm, potentially affecting fertility, and possibly leading to birth defects.
  • Widespread use of quats is contributing to the global problem of antimicrobial resistance, leading to the development of “superbugs” that cannot be controlled with antibiotics.
  • Despite popular belief, the use of potent antibacterial cleaners in the home has never been proven to reduce colds or flu in the people that live there…and the potential health effects of the quats in them are more severe than the cold and flu symptoms they’re supposed to be preventing.

How to identify ammonium quaternary compounds.

Quats are a class of chemicals most often found in disinfectant sprays, antibacterial all-purpose cleaners, and disinfectant wipes. Any active ingredients in household cleaners including “...onium chloride” is a quat. Common examples of quats in household cleaners include:

  • Benzalkonium chloride
  • Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride
  • Alkyl dimethyl enthylbenzyl ammonium chloride
  • Didecyldimethylammonium chloride
